Bangs... Bangs... and More Bangs!
Karen Lafferty, Owner, Annodam Aveda Day Spa and Salon, Inc.
If you are a woman between the ages of 18 and 50, you have probably read or seen an article about bangs-the new hair trend this season. How do you know if bangs are for you? Well, there are a couple of easy questions you can ask yourself to see if bangs might work for you:
1st, would you like to look younger?
2nd, would you like your eyes to stand out more?
3rd, is your forehead disproportionate to the rest of your face?
4th, would your face look nice if your hair framed it?
5th, is your face longer than it is wider?
6th, do you have any wrinkles on your forehead?
If you answered "yes" to one or more of these questions, then bangs would likely complement your face. If you did not answer "yes" to any of these questions, don't feel left out... bangs can be for everyone regardless. Bangs come in all shapes and sizes, and we can make them work for you! Short, long, wispy, thick, fringy, angled, sweeping, your imagination is the limit! Make your appointment today for bangs or a full makeover at Annodam Aveda Day Spa and Salon. Thanks!
That "Just Walked Out of the Salon" Look
Karen Lafferty, Owner, Annodam Aveda Day Spa and Salon, Inc.
Clients always ask, "How can I get my hair to look the same way at home as when I am at the salon?" Here are a couple of tips on how to recreate that special salon-look.
Step 1: Towel dry hair immediately when getting out of the shower
Step 2: Apply appropriate product to achieve hold and texture
Styling Suggestion: Aveda Phomolliant Styling Foam is perfect for creating weightless volume and soft-to-the-touch hold. For short funky, piecy, separated, fun hair, the Aveda Control Line is excellent!
Step 3: After applying product, comb hair thoroughly to distribute product evenly. Then finger place your style and let hair air-dry. This will help your style to take shape while making your next step (blow-drying) easier.
Step 4: When blow-drying your hair make sure to use the nozzle that comes with most blow dryers. This gives you control and directs airflow so you do not create frizz throughout the other sections. Many people discard the nozzle-- a very important tool. Always use your hands to get approximately 85% of the moisture removed before taking a brush to your hair.
Step 5: Finishing. After completing the blow-drying it is important not to brush through your hair unless it is long and straight. Instead, use a finishing product such as Light Elements Finishing Solution for fine hair or Brilliant Emollient Finishing Gloss for medium-coarse hair. Add Control Paste Finishing Paste to smooth and add volume. Be careful not to over-finish as this will result in hair that looks oily or weighed down. As your hair is dry at this point, it will absorb the product quickly so you may be tempted to add more. Work a small amount into your hair.
Step 6: When it is time to use the brush, take clips and section the top off from the rest of the hair. Start at the bottom. It is best to use brushes that have a metal center, which acts as a smoother and curling iron. Take small pieces and smooth hair around brush. Allow time to cool or use the cool option on your hair dryer. Continue these steps all the way to the top. Remember, brush angle equals direction.
Step 7: When your style is complete and you are feeling glamorous because you did such a great job it is now time to add a light holding spray. This step completes your look!
Good luck, have fun, and call Annodam Aveda Day Spa and Salon, Inc. with any questions or to book an appointment. Stylists are available for consultations on new styles. And look like you just walked out of the salon any day of the week!

1-2-3, Get Ready for Healthy Skin

If you want a one-way ticket to great skin, it is critical that you begin a daily routine that involves cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. Your skin will glow and your make-up will look that much better if you follow these easy steps:
Step 1: Cleansing. Wash your face with a special cleanser that is appropriate for your skin type. Aveda Purifying Cream Cleanser is perfect for normal-dry skin; Aveda Purifying Gel Cleanser is an exceptional cleanser for normal-oily skin. Do this once in the morning and again at night. Even if you did not wear make-up that day, cleansing is important to erase build up, pollution, bacteria, dust, etc. from your pores. Apply cleanser gently and rub into your face then rinse with lukewarm water.
Step 2: Toning. The second step is toning, which removes traces of the cleanser, helps to begin the moisturizing process, and restores your skin's natural pH balance. Use Aveda Toning Mist, a natural astringent toner containing witchhazel (as opposed to alcohol), for normal-oily skin. Alternatively, try a non-alcohol based toner like Aveda Skin Firming/Toning Agent for normal-dry skin. Apply toner with a cotton ball or spray on.
Step 3: Moisturizing. Replenish your skin with Aveda Hydrating Lotion, which is appropriate for all skin types or Tourmaline Charged Lotion and Creme. If you are outdoors alot and subject to the elements, your might try the Tourmaline Lotion as it has SPF 15 in it to block the sun's harmful rays. Moisturizing will give your skin a nice attractive glow while providing nutrients that your skin needs.
By following these three steps regularly, your skin will be nourished, pliable, and healthy. So give your skin the 1-2-3 and come see us at Annodam Aveda Day Spa and Salon, Inc. in Doylestown, PA.
Facials: A True Necessity
Kaye Demario, Esthetician, Annodam Aveda Day Spa and Salon, Inc.
Many of the women who I talk to are prematurely seeking drastic options to "fix" their skin. They have neglected their skin, creating problems that could have been avoided by a periodic regiment of facials, good habits and correct product usage. It's hard to over-estimate the importance of a fresh exuberant face in our society. So try some of Jenya's suggestions listed above or come in for a consultation at Annodam Aveda Day Spa and Salon, Inc. in Doylestown, PA.
Imagine that each pore represents a tiny suitcase... as the day goes on the suitcases fill up with make-up, sweat, and contaminants-it all adds up! As with any heavy baggage, the contents begin to take their toll. The pore (baggage) begins to lose elasticity and eventually sags, bulges, or even overflows. After a trip, you take the time to unload your luggage and clean out the contents from your trip. Your pores also need extensive cleaning.
Facials, long thought of as a luxury are truly a necessity. Our times and lives have changed and so should the way we treat our skin to maintain its longevity. Aveda's Radiant Facial deep cleans the skin, treating the sub-layers, and preparing them for future exposure. Regular facials should be categorized along with the other services that you schedule for your body: haircut, exercise, and eating healthy foods. Each of these activities repair and replace damaged cells, the fundamental structure of life!
Exfoliate Before Moisturizing
Kaye Demario, Esthetician, Annodam Aveda Day Spa and Salon, Inc.
During the winter season so many of us apply large amounts of moisturizer and still wonder, why is my skin so dry? One reason for this is that people are moisturizing dead skin cells on the surface as opposed to their "living skin" beneath. The process of exfoliation seems obscure, but it is an important step in caring for your entire body. Use Aveda Exfoliant on a weekly basis to remove all of the tired and worn cells from the surface, leaving behind your living skin. This layer can be easily moisturized.
At the turn of each season, we recommend the Aveda Salt Glow or Body Polish (contains fine crushed walnuts) treatment to really get the job done. It's an invigorating and relaxing service that we do here at Annodam Aveda Day Spa and Salon, Inc. Following the exfoliation, you may opt for a natural tan using Aveda's Sun Source product. The Soulmates use it, why not you?
