An Open Letter to the Schools of Bucks County

October 21, 2004

On July 20th, 2004, we opened Seedlings Salon for Children and Young Adults in Doylestown, an endeavor that promises to deliver great educational value to our children. Seedlings is much more than just a salon. With a tropical rainforest decor, Seedlings is designed to educate our youth regarding nature, biodiversity and the strength that we can draw from it.

We provide games and storybooks with science themes, readings by local authors and thought-provoking activities. Our estheticians explain fundamentals of good self care, hygiene and show children how to keep their skin healthy. (Did you know that our skin is the largest organ of the body?) And our stylists can help teens prepare for bar and bat mitzvahs, proms or school dances and other events.

The following are some suggestions for ways in which your children could get more involved in Seedlings, a project that teaches the importance of being calm (something we're sure your teachers will appreciate!). Thanks very much for listening...

Ways that we could work together:

  • We can send a speaker to your class to tell the very interesting story of Aveda and how our products are derived from pure flower and plant essences from all over the world. These essences are then taken to labs where scientists work with the various compounds and herbs. We could also discuss how the company came to be, a subject that may be of interest to your future business students.
  • Please consider including a notice in your school bulletin, letting children and their parents know that Seedlings is a great place for birthday parties or to help teens get ready for school dances.
  • If you're involved with the Girl Scouts, we can help them to earn their Grooming Badges!
  • Your science class may want to take a school trip. The products we use are works of chemistry! We can take groups for a tour of "the rainforest of Doylestown" and explain the different compounds we use for hair color, skin, etc. (We also believe there is a sociology connection that can be made with the beauty industry).
  • A tour of Seedlings makes for a great after-school program trip. We would be glad to take your class through and explain the many benefits of staying relaxed and being focused in life. Taking time for yourself is an important lesson for hurried children. We also occasionally host readings by local children's authors.  Come by and listen.
  • We hold educational workshops throughout the year, which may have application for teenagers considering a career in the beauty industry. Why not come by and listen? We also throw parties like our Halloween Costume Party, because at Seedlings, we believe in fun! We even have a karaoke booth so children can try out their singing voice. One event, in particular, that may be of interest, is our upcoming "A Day to Connect" where mothers and daughters can receive select spa services side-by-side.
  • Please consider including a notice in your school bulletin, letting children and their parents know that Seedlings is a great place for birthday parties or to help teens get ready for school dances.

To follow-up on any of these items, please call Todd Fiorentino at 215-340-1782. We want to work with you! Also, feel free to photocopy this letter and distribute to teachers, neighbors, PTA groups, administrators (principals and superintendents) and anyone else you think may be interested. Thanks once again.

All the best,

Todd Fiorentino
